Anthony, Merrill Sterling

Charleston, NS

Anthony - Merrill S., 79, of Charleston, Queens County, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 28, 2024 with his loving family by his side.


Born in Halifax, Merrill was the only son of the late Lee S. and Phyllis M. (Shupe) Anthony.

Merrill worked for the former Baker’s Auto Sales in Mill Village before taking over as owner/operator of ASM Mechanical Repairs. He served as chief of the Charleston Fire Department for 50 years, taking over from his Dad. Merrill loved to farm. He enjoyed time spent with his animals. In his words, his “stress relief”.


Merrill is survived by his wife Frances (Baker); his daughters Colleen (Rod) Hull of Maitland; Karen (Ricky) Miller and Michelle (Jeff) Lucas, both of Charleston. His son Richard (Tammy) of Charleston. His grandchildren Caileigh Hull (Matt Dexter), Kelsey Anthony, Krista Miller (Ryan Ozon), Mitchell Anthony (Chanelle McDonald), Zoe and Rae Lucas. His great grandchildren Dallas Hubley and Chloe Dexter. His sister Margo Zwicker of Caledonia.


Besides his parents, Merrill was predeceased by his sister Goldie Schnare and a sister in infancy.


Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow.


Family flowers only, donations may be made to any charity.


Special thanks to Dr. Gary Ernest, VON, Queens Home Support, Palliative Care team and all the private care givers who were instrumental in keeping Merrill home.
