Bates, Laurie Edward

Truro, NS

September 17, 2024

Laurie Edward Bates - 67, Truro, known by his beloved clientele as the man who could give you a trim faster than Edward Scissorhands, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 after a brave battle with cancer.

For 41 years Laurie was a beloved figure in Truro, known for his forthright nature and sarcastic humor. He would always ensure you’d leave his chair "feeling a little lighter."

Laurie enjoyed biking the Cobequid Trail with his grandchildren, collecting comic books and movies, as well as driving in solitude along the scenic routes of Nova Scotia.

Laurie is survived by his loving daughters, Charlsie Bates, Kayla Bates; his dear grandchildren, Eleanor Cassidy, Oakley Fisher; his caring siblings, Larry Bates, Trent Bates, Tony Bates, Tammy Smith, Christa Watson.

Laurie was predeceased by his parents, Charles Bates and Helen Bates; his brother, Daniel Bates.

At this time we would like to extend our gratitude to his loyal customer base who have supported the family business for more than four decades; we will continue to serve the community for many years to come.

Honouring Laurie’s wishes, there will not be a service, though we would like to extend an invitation to our customers to join our family in honouring his life at Bates Barbershop on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 1-3 pm.
