It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Mary Jeanette Bennett, 94, on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Cape Breton Regional (CBR) Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Donald and Mary “Minnie” (MacMullin) Walker, of Frenchvale, NS.

Mary Jeanette was known and loved by many as an incredible woman of faith, strength, resilience, love, courage and humility. She was mom to Donnie, Terry, Jessie, Barry, Bruce (Rebecca), Paul, Darcy (Tobi), Angela (Paul); mother-in-law to Shirley, Aggie, Billy and Patti; “Nanny” to Curtis, Samantha, Tanisha, Crystal, Jenna, Travis, Brandon, Theresa, April, Madison, Ceilidh, Laine, Brady, Chad, and Brett; and great grandmother to Noah, Milania, Avery, Landon, Nathan, Bennett and Brooks. She was also loved and respected by many nieces and nephews and is survived by her beloved sister Christena (late Victor MacDonald) and sister-in-law Theresa (late Angus Currie).

She was predeceased by her husband, Billy, children Barry Francis (in infancy), John Cecil, Blaine (Angie), Andre and Roddie, and by her siblings Katie (Doug), Rhodena (Michael), John (Gabrielle), Danny (in infancy) and Dougie (Andrea); and also by Linda MacMullin who was like a daughter to her.

Mary Jeanette was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Parish in Frenchvale. Her unwavering faith was apparent to all who knew her. She adored her family and was the glue that held everyone together. In her younger years, she loved to skate, play ball, knit, bake & sew. She also loved her flowers, hockey games, bingo and a good competitive game of Tarabish.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful people who helped to take care of her in recent years, who all allowed her to remain at home, especially her devoted sons Barry & Terry, VON, and County Homemakers, and also more recently, the palliative care unit at CBR.

Although she will be missed dearly, she will live on in the lives of the countless people that she impacted in her 94 years.

Visitation will be held for Mary from 5-8 p.m. on Friday September 27, 2024 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church in Frenchvale, burial in the parish cemetery, with lunch to follow at the Frenchvale Fire Hall.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
