Boutilier (O'Keefe), Wendy

Leitches Creek, NS

November 18, 1957 - September 25, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wendy M. Boutilier (O’Keefe), of Leitches Creek, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wendy was born in North Sydney on November 18, 1957 to the late Bill and Bette (Buffett) O’Keefe.  She later moved to Westmount with her family.

Wendy faced cancer as she did with life – gracefully and determinedly. She kept updated information on her treatments so that each doctor would have exact dates, times and procedures; she was quite proud of her records.

Wendy is survived by her partner of 40 years, Ron Williams, her daughter Janet Boutilier, and her beautiful grandchildren, Dakota and Brody, who were the light of Wendy’s eyes.  She is also survived by her brother Dave O’Keefe (Martha); her sister Nancy MacIsaac (Reg); her nephew Chris (Natalie) MacIsaac with children Zoe and Cohen; her beautiful cat Muffin who will miss her sleeping partner, along with many cousins near and far.

In addition to her parents, Wendy was predeceased by her favourite aunt, Marie Porter (Buffett).

Wendy was a proud member of CUPW as a letter carrier until an injury forced her into early retirement.  Her greatest joy was her grandchildren Dakota and Brody.  She always had crafts for them to paint, cookies and muffins to bake with, of course, lots of sprinkles!!  Wendy was an amazing baker of homemade breads and pies.  She loved sharing her recipes with everyone, especially Kailey.  Her vegetable garden, which Ron built, was filled with a variety of vegetables, and once fall arrived, Wendy made amazing salsas and sauces, which she happily shared with her friends.

Wendy had a large circle of friends, old and new, including her lunch pals - Kim, Audrey, Thelma and Trudy, as well as special friends Darren and Tammy, at whose cabin Wendy and Ron enjoyed many a summer evening on the lake enjoying a few “Pepsis”!!  Special thanks to Darren for honouring Wendy with a special gift, and of course the eggs!!

Special thanks to Ron’s brother Dave Williams who was Ron’s strength during Wendy’s illness, regularly bringing him a coffee so they could sit on the deck and just talk and be brothers.

The family would like to thank the EMTs and nurses who attended to Wendy’s needs at home.  Also, the staff at the Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital – with special mention to Arlene Billard, who had the answers to all of Wendy’s questions.  Finally, to Dr. Patrick O’Grady for his care and compassion over the past number of years.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Lakeside Cemetery on Johnson Road, North Sydney, with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating.

Donations in Wendy’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

Until We Meet Again

Those special memories of you will always bring a smile

If only I could have you back for just a little while

Then we could sit and talk again

Just like we used to do

You always meant so very much and always will

The fact that you’re no longer here

Will always cause me pain

But you’re forever in my heart

Until we meet again
