Glace Bay, NS
May 9, 1956 - October 5, 2024
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter James Brunet, age 68, on October 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 9, 1956, in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Dorothy (O’Neil) and George Brunet.
In his early years Peter spent many weekends shooting darts with friends and family and had a reputation of being a decent shot. He enjoyed having a drink, and if the mood was right, you would find him dancing on the dance floor or playing piano on a table. Peter was not a man of many words, but when he did speak everyone listened and was entertained. He was someone that was always trying to bring humor to any situation and keep the spirits of everyone high, especially with his one-liners.
Peter was a jack of all trades. If anyone needed something fixed or needed help you always knew you could call “Big Peter” because he could fix anything. One of Peter’s first jobs was stocking shelves and helping customers in the customer service industry. Later in life he settled into a career at the Glace Bay Fisheries, unloading lobster and crab from the boats. During this time, he established himself as a reliable worker and someone who took great pride in his work.
Peter will be sadly missed by his partner Janet Murphy who he shared a life with for the last 38 years, along with their children, Chris (Amy), Peter (Danielle) and Katie. He will be forever missed by his grandchildren who he adored: Gracie, Zoe, Ella, Hudson, Nick, Kylie, Cain, and Allie and Justis who will always hold a special place in his heart. He is survived by his three brothers Paddy (Margaret) Brunet, Georgie (Donna) Brunet, Tommy Brunet, and five sisters Dorothy (Danny) MacDonald, Rose (Billy) Thompson, Liz (Darrel) Martin, Paula Brunet, Linda Brunet (Joe Matheson), as well as extended family Jonathan (Gail Parnham) and Katie (Masood) Parnham. He was loved and admired by many nieces, nephews and great friends.
He is predeceased by his sister in infancy, Elizabeth Rose and sister-in-law Susan Parnham.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Dialysis Unit at the CBRH along with Dr.’s Elleker and Dr. Thana for their care and compassion over the years.
As per Peter’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
There will not be a service however a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
