Campbell, Joanne

Glace Bay, NS

September 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joanne Wright Campbell on September 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 21,1950, in Glace Bay, Joanne was the daughter of the late Chalmers and Johanna Beaton.

Joanne was a proud Acadia alumna and could often be seen sporting Acadia clothing when out and about in Glace Bay. After graduating from Acadia University, she went on to obtain her teaching degree from Saint Mary’s University. Joanne had a long and rewarding teaching career in the communities of Glace Bay, Reserve Mines and Dominion. She cared for all her students but had a particular soft spot for the troublemakers because to her, they had the most personality.

After retiring from a successful teaching career, Joanne spent her days working part time at Town House in Glace Bay, going for long drives with her husband, Stephen and meeting monthly with the girls at Tim Hortons solving all the world’s problems. She especially loved spending time with her beloved granddaughters, Charlotte and Emma, who brought her immense joy. Joanne was also a talented artist. This is apparent when visiting her home in Reserve Mines where several of her paintings are on display.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stephen Campbell; beloved son Andrew and daughter- in-law Meghan; adored granddaughters Charlotte and Emma; brother James and sister-in-law Paula; sister-in-law Betty Ann; sister-in-law Clair and husband John; and brother-in-law Sheldon.

Joanne also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and their families and many close friends. In addition to her parents, Joanne is predeceased by her son, Stephen David, at birth; brother Dwight; five brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and their spouses.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the nursing and medical staff in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as Dr. David Ley and staff.
