With great sorrow we the family of Betty Louise Carabin announce her peaceful passing January 22, 2025, at Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home suffering from Alzheimer's disease. She was 91.

Betty, the oldest of five children, was born in Glace Bay to Bill and Marjorie Payne. She grew up on Brookland Street with her sister Jean and three brothers Gerry, Bud and Terry remaining close to them and their families over her lifetime. In 1954 Betty married Lloyd Carabin with whom she shared sixty wonderful years of marriage.

Betty worked many years for Simpson Sears in Glace Bay enjoying her time there helping all of her clients.

Betty was loved by everyone in her life. She enjoyed so many camping trips with her family, often accompanied by many of Lloyd's family and her own. In the early years summer vacations in Big Pond and Ingonish were the places to be. After their children left home, trips to sunny Florida with her brother Gerry and his wife Pat made the winter so much more enjoyable. She and Lloyd also made many trips to the US with Glady and Alton Sutton. Summers in Cape Breton were spent at their bungalow in Schooner Pond and then at their trailer on the Mira, where they enjoyed many games of cards and wonderful meals with all their family and friends. Betty enjoyed dancing and went to many, accompanied by Lloyd's sister Helen Nicholson and her husband Donnie.

Betty is survived by her daughter Linda (Terry Best) and their children Andrew (Chris) and Erin (Paul O'Connor) and her great grandchildren Sean and Harper. She is also survived by her son Lorne, and his children Sara (Andrew Murphy) Abbey (Austin Bigley) and Olivia.

Along with her parents she was predeceased by her husband Lloyd; daughter-in-law Debbie; brothers Bud (Annie) Terry (Blanche) and her sister, Jean (Harley Peverill) who she resided with and was cared for dearly in the years after Lloyd's passing in 2015.

The family would like to thank the all the staff at Taigh Na Mara for the compassionate care given to Betty during her stay there.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
