Ezilda Maria Coutinho - Died peacefully in her sleep at St. Peter's Hospital in Hamilton, ON on March 30, 2024.
She is survived by her two sons Louis (Avila) and Leslie; and daughter-in-law, Christine Coutinho.
Predeceased by her husband Joseph and her sons Mario and Ian. Proud grandmother of Karl (Jaime), Sean (Mallory) whose wedding she attended last year, Robert (Julie), Leslee and Lyndsey, and her twin grandsons Bryan and Brent (Kate). Cherished great-grandmother of Cruz, Cash, Mia, Gage, Ella and Allison.
She is also survived by her nephews Rosendo, Narciso, Freddy and Lawrence Rodrigues and their families. She was the youngest of her five sisters who are predeceased. Ezilda was widowed in 1962 and was married to the late Joseph Frontao Coutinho.
Ezilda retired from Sears in Halifax when they closed off their catalogue section in the early 2000s. She was also a volunteer member of the Red Cross in Halifax for 30 years and received a commendation for her service. She enjoyed a robust social life until the pandemic in 2020 which curtailed her social activities. She had many friends in Ontario and Nova Scotia. She was a member of prayer groups in Halifax and Our Lady of Peace Rosary group in Hamilton, among others. Ezilda had many very close friends who checked on her daily and who she checked on daily as well. Her friends were her lifeline.
The Coutinho family wishes to thank St. Peter’s Hospital, the doctors and all of the nursing and administration staff for the great care and concern they showed Ezilda during her time there in palliative care. The family also wants to acknowledge the many friends in Hamilton and Halifax who were her inspiration.
Visitation was held at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 12 noon. A second visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 in the White Family Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Kentville. The Funeral Mass, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 48 Belcher Street, Kentville. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 1, Kentville.
If desired, donations to any Catholic Charity or the Cancer Assistance Program in Ezilda's name would be appreciated by the family.
