Donna Marie (Dean) Cox - 86, Salmon River, Truro. With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Donna Cox on December 14, 2024.
Donna was born in 1938 in Dean Settlement, Nova Scotia, to Cecil and Annie Dean.
Donna is survived by her husband of 66 years, Percy Cox; children, Tony Cox (Janet), Merrill Cox (Shelley), Mark Cox (Julie) and Royce Cox (Tracy); grandsons, Chris and Connor. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Earl Dean, Ruben Dean, Thelma (Dean) Burris, Audrey (Dean) Prest and Ruth Dean.
Donna was a graduate of Provincial Normal College in Nova Scotia and taught briefly before marrying her sweetheart and settling in Truro to raise their four sons. She loved being a mother and one of the ways she showed this was by preparing countless home cooked meals, you name it, she cooked it! Anyone who knew Donna would most likely have had a sampling of her delicious baked goods and tasty meals!
Donna was also a very talented musician. It was truly inspiring how she could play the piano ‘by ear’, and at the age of 65, she took up the fiddle! She truly enjoyed this new passion and would regularly play ‘old time music’ with her fiddle group.
Donna’s love of music and dancing brought her great joy throughout her life; she and Percy were regulars at the local dances well into their senior years. She was a gentle soul who always appreciated the little things and would often share her observations about how vibrant the green grass was or how blue the sky; and she was genuinely grateful for it.
Alongside her gracious manner was also a great sense of humour; laughter was a staple in the Cox household! Upon entering her home, there was always a warm welcome and a huge hug with offers of delicious food not far behind!
Donna will be missed beyond words by all who knew her; she has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.
The family would like to thank the staff of Colchester East Hants Health Center who were involved in her care.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
