CROUSE, Darlene Adele

Waterloo, NS

February 1, 2024

Crouse – Darlene Adele, 57, of Waterloo, NS passed away at South Shore Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family on February 1, 2024.

Born in Bridgewater, Darlene was a daughter of the late Douglas and Bonita (Joudrey) Croft.

Darlene grew up in Buckfield and later moved to Warerloo, where she was able to enjoy much of her time outdoors on the farm. Animals were always one of her greatest loves, especially horses, cows, dogs, and later in life, cats. Darlene always looked forward to attending Exhibitions, 4H Provincial Shows, and Horse Shows of any kind, particularly if her daughters were showing their horses. She was often a “horse-show-mom” not only to her girls, but many of their friends. She was always willing to help out with anything that needed doing, and if she couldn’t do it, she would find someone who could! Darlene was a dedicated leader and volunteer with the Lunenburg County 4H for many years, where she formed lifelong friendships with lots of folks around the county and across the province.

For the past almost five years, Darlene worked at the AFN Medway River Entertainment in Greenfield. It was here that her coworkers became her second family and her customers were great friends. She loved her time at the AFN, it wasn’t just a job, it was where she was able to spend time with some of her favourite people, sharing her unique sense of humour and glass half-full outlook on life.

Darlene provided her two daughters with every opportunity in her power, she was always so proud of them, and never shy to tell a story or two. In recent years, the pride and joy of her life were her 4 grandchildren, who became the absolute centre of her world. “Crazy Grammy” was always up for a game, a story or a movie, and always had treats!

She would have loved to have been able to travel more, but could often be found with a book in hand, escaping to some far away land in the pages. Recently she discovered a new passion for “buggy rides” going out on the side by side with her partner James.

Surviving are her companion James Jeremy, her daughters Allie (Jason) Veinot of Baker’s Settlement, Shelby Crouse (Brandon Grant) of Milton. Her grandchildren Ryker, Brody, Carter and Alexa Veinot. Her sister Amanda Croft of Bedford and her brother Dennis of Buckfield and the father of her daughters Kevin Crouse of Waterloo.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Greenfield United Baptist Church. Reverend Janet Baker officiating. A private family burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
