Cunningham, Marjorie June (Penney)

Centreville, NS

June 7, 1936 - September 27, 2024


Cunningham, Marjorie June (Penney) – 88, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024 at Roseway Hospital.


Born to the late Lester and Madeline (Nickerson) Penney at home in South Side and has resided in Centreville for many years.


Marjorie took great pride in her home keeping it meticulous and she loved baking and trying new desserts in her earlier years. Marjorie worked helping her Aunt Clissie working at the South Side Post Office and working at the grocery store. She worked many years for Sable Fish Packers Ltd. working on fresh fish, as well as, in the salt fish department, weighing and packing salt fish in wooden boxes and pound cello bags, with her friend, the late Augusta Chase.


She is survived by her brother, Alvin (sister-in-law, Judy) Penney; sister, Gloria (late brother-in-law, Wenford) Nickerson; grandsons, Darren Nickerson, Toronto and Ian (Kleo) Nickerson-Kourouglos, New Jersey; great grandchildren, Colleen Nickerson, South Side, Despina and Elias Nickerson-Kourouglos, New Jersey; son-in-law, Blanchard Nickerson, South Side; sister-in-law, Tootsie Penney, South Side and Hazel (Victor) Burrill, NB; brother-in-law, Owen (Marina) Cunningham, Churchover, cousins, nieces and nephews.


Besides her parents, Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Blanchard; daughter, Joanne (Cunningham) Nickerson; brothers, Bruce Penney and Maynard Penney.


Thanks to the Doctors and Nurses of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital and our most sincere thanks to Dr. Cooper, Tracy Smith and the entire staff of 2 North of the Roseway Hospital. Your care and kindness shown to Marjorie was exceptional.


Also, thanks to Lea Donovan, Continuing Care Co-ordinator, Home Care and Von staff who assisted her at home this past year. Marjorie held a special place in her heart for Debra Swimm, her housekeeper, who spent extra time with her chatting about life.


Donations may be made to the South Side United Baptist Church, White Lily Cemetery or the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund.
