Dartmouth, NS
February 24, 1955 - March 20, 2025
Calvin Arthur Danells (Cal) 70 of Dartmouth, NS, passed away on March 20th 2025 at the Dartmouth General Hospital after a brief illness.
Cal was born in Saint John, New Brunswick to the late Edward and Martha Danells.
He is predeceased by his sisters Ruby, Lou, Ann and Dawn and brothers Chuck, Fred, Paul and Bill.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marilyn, children, Faye, Canne, Scott (Kjay) and Grace (Jordan), 10 grandchildren, Austin, Jay, Oliver, Wilfred, Hugo, Riley, Ethan, Haydn, Ruby and Harper, his sister, Lynn (Donnie), many nieces and nephews and his dog, Lily.
Cal was a proud veteran and a motorcycle enthusiast. He travelled all over the world on various ships in his Navy days. He retired after 30 years as a Naval Weapons Tech in the Royal Canadian Navy. He then enjoyed travelling all over North America on his bike with Marilyn and friends in his retirement. He was known to ride 200km just for lunch. He loved working on his bike and helping out friends with their Gold Wings in his garage. He later bought and restored the first motorcycle he ever drove at the age of 13 and entered it in local shows. Cal did not do anything half heartedly. He gave his all in everything he did, whether it was helping out a friend, projects around the house or being there for his family. He enjoyed his Friday nights bowling, Monday nights entertaining at Kick Tire in his garage and trips to the Fall River Tim Horton’s to have a tea and see biker friends.
His children would often call him with questions about cars, plumbing, electrical, or renovations and he seemed to always have an answer to the problem. He would show up at our front door with a tool box and a smile, happy to help. He was a strong and determined man who cared deeply for the friends and family in his life.
Cal gave the best hugs, had the biggest heart and was a professional story teller (whether they were true or slightly embellished). He will be immensely missed by all that knew him.
Special thanks to Seb who carries on Cal’s legacy through his love of motorcycles.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 12pm-4pm at ANAVETS, 137 Main Street, Dartmouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Cal to the Rolling Barrage. https://therollingbarrage.com/donate/
