DECOSTE, William Francis (Bill)

Monastery, NS

February 7, 2024

DeCoste, William Francis "Bill", age 82, of Monastery, Antigonish County, passed away on February 7, 2024, at home.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late James and Ellen (Mattie) DeCoste.

Bill worked for a frozen food company when he lived in Toronto and for the Department of Highways when he moved back home.  He enjoyed bluegrass music, going to the concerts in PEI for over 40 years, and hosting parties at his camp.  Bill had a devilishness to him.  He was always joking with people, and he especially loved teasing his siblings.

He loved watching the Habs and watching the Leafs lose.  An animal lover, especially his cats, he would feed the birds and squirrels right out of his hand.  He was a very good neighbour, and he felt the same about the neighbours he had.  Most of all, though, he loved and was devoted to his dear wife, Alva.

He is survived by his siblings, Kaye (late Percy) Gallant, Antigonish; John (late Judy), St. Andrews; Frankie (Shirley), Tracadie; Marjorie (Marcel) Valade, Eagle River, ON; Mary (late Jimmy) Mattie, Heatherton; Hellie (late Jerry) LeBlanc, Monastery; Eddie (Sharon), Halifax; Bernie (Sharon), Etobicoke, ON; Eileen (Gary) Moore, Monastery; Ernie (Shirley), Linwood; Everett (Joanne), Thorburn; Ellsworth (Yvonne), Tracadie; Kevin (Frances), Lakevale; brothers-in-law, Tommy and Peter Bowman; sister-in-law, Donna Delorey; and many godchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Predeceased by his wife, Alva, and siblings, Lawrence, Jimily, Theresa, Emmie, Angela, and John, Margaret Amanda, and Margaret Cecilia in infancy.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral Mass will be held on Monday in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, with Fr. John Barry presiding.  Burial in the parish cemetery in the spring.

In Memoriam, donations to Diabetes Canada or your local SPCA appreciated.
