August 21, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Marie Delaney, 92, of Upper Prince Street, on August 21, 2024, with her son Kevin by her side.
Mom was born in Sydney to the late Bernard and Kathleen (Vatcher) Oakley.
Mom walked through life with a gentle strength, touching all the lives she encountered with an unforgettable grace. She worked for many years as the personnel/associate manager at Zellers until her retirement. Mom had a smart mouth, quick wit, a huge heart and a green thumb. She had a passion for gardening, loved to paint, spent many days bowling and walking and cooking and baking for her family. Her cinnamon rolls were the best! She loved to watch the Blue Jays play and loved a great curling match. She loved long drives, especially on Sunday to the bungalow on the Mira, to spend the day with Ron and her family.
Mom is survived by her children Debbie Whitty, Shirley (Bill) Puddicombe, Tommy (Pixie) Slade and Kevin Slade; stepchildren Cheryl (Carl) MacLeod and Jean (Brian) Brophy; son-in-law Allan (Bump) Donovan; brothers-in-law Joe Delaney and Gerry (Warna) Delaney; sisters-in-law Myrna Delaney and Cecilia Delaney; and a very special niece, Marilyn Hallam. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mom is predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald Delaney; daughter Brenda Donovan; brother Tommy Oakley; grandchildren Craig Etheridge and Ronald Whitty; son-in-law Michael Whitty; sisters-in-law Evelyn Oakley, Aggie (Marty) MacIntyre, Theresa (Ted) Smith, Jean (Hughie) MacLeod, Mary (Bill) Tobin, Margie (Earl) Healey; brothers-in-law Gerry (Marg) Delaney, Mart (Ruth) Delaney, Jim Delaney and Pat Delaney. She is also predeceased by her first husband, Tommy Slade.
Family will greet friends and family from 12pm up until 1:00 when a Funeral Service will commence on Friday, August 30 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St. Inurnment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
We are profoundly grateful for our brother Kevin’s unwavering love and dedication as he cared for mom until her final moments.
