We the family of Andrew de Varennes are deeply saddened to announce his passing on June 29, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He grew up in Westmount and was the son of the late Leonard and Imelda de Varennes.
Andrew is survived by his son Brandon (Tracy) de Varennes, Halifax and his daughter Cara (Oliver) Friend, Calne, England. Also surviving are his grandchildren Blake de Varennes and Theo and Maeve Friend. Andrew is also survived by brothers Michael (Sandy), Edmonton and Richard (Maureen), Halifax, sisters Donna (Neale) Morrison, Jo-Ann (Bernie) MacKinnon, Paula (Garth) Greer, Susan (Tony, deceased) Coady and Phyllis (Sheldon) Martin. He is also survived by the mother of his children Ellen de Varennes.
Andrew worked for many years for Canada Post and retired in 2015. In retirement he worked part-time at various jobs and until recently was employed at The Lakes Golf Club And Resort in Ben Eoin. Andrew was always friendly, kind and quick to develop long lasting friendships wherever he worked. Family was always at the center of Andrew's life and he will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at the Regional Hospital for all the excellent care he was given. Special thanks to Dr. Jonathon Hebb, Hematology and his team for all their kindness and compassion.
Donations may be made in Andrew's memory to the Tom MacNeil Patient Care Fund or a charity of your choice.
A celebration of Andrew's life will take place on Friday, July 5, 2024 at The Lakes Golf Club and Resort, Ben Eoin from 6 until 8pm.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of TW Curry Parkview Chapel.
