ELLIOTT, Murray Adelbert

Middleton, NS

January 15, 1938 - January 20, 2024


Murray Adelbert Elliott, 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on January 20th, 2024 at the Dartmouth General surrounded by his family.


Born on January 15, 1938 in Spa Springs Annapolis County to the late Matthew and Mona (Craig) Elliott he moved to Dartmouth at the age of 18 to work for Woodlawn Dairy where he met the love of his life Carole. In 1967 they moved to the community of Cole Harbour where in 1968 he joined the Westphal-Cole Harbour Fire Department as a volunteer. A few years later he was hired on as a full-time firefighter eventually working his way up to the position of Chief, a job he held until his retirement in 1996.


Murray was a firm believer in giving back to the community that he loved and was a life long member of the Westphal-Cole Harbour Firefighters Association, Critical Incident Stress Management Team, Cole Harbour Kiwanis Beach and Park, St Andrews Anglican Church, Cole Harbour Business Association and many other community organizations. He was recognized for his many community involvements with the Queen Elizabeth Diamond and Platinum Medals.


He is survived by his wife of 67 years Carole (Doherty) daughter Brenda (Andre) Degaust, Cole Harbour, son Murray Jr (Mahone Bay), granddaughter Danielle (Rob), Dartmouth, grandson Derek, Port George, sister Marion, Greenwood, brother Vaughn (Rosemary) Nictaux, sister Betty (Kingston) and brother Jimmy (Patricia) Spa Springs. He was predeceased by his brothers Gerald and Ronald, sister in law Noreen, brother in laws Tom Arthurs and Ross King.


Service will be held on Monday February 5, 2024 11:00 am at the Anglican Church of Saint Andrew, 2 Circassian Dr. Cole Harbour Archdeacon Katherine Bourbonniere officiating, reception to follow after the service, burial at a later date.
