March 12, 1942 - April 6, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of James (Jim/Jimmy) Frederick Field who passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born in Halifax on March 12, 1942, he was the oldest of seven children of Frederick and Mary (Flynn) Field. Jim lived his entire life in Dartmouth, where he spent his last 40 years with his cherished wife, Carolyn (Marshall), whom he loved dearly and who cared for and loved him with her entire heart.
Jim retired from Maritime Tel & Tel where he worked for 33 years. He began his career as a mechanic and ended up as a lineman. He liked to joke that he was a PHD (post hole digger) who “climbed poles and dug holes” for a living. Jim was a fabulous singer and dancer, and he loved the hot summer sun. He spent over 40 years trailering with his family and many friends at Sherwood Forest Campground in Coldbrook, where he enjoyed golfing at sunrise on Saturday and Sunday mornings, lounging in the sun during the afternoons, the Saturday night adult dances, and he seldom lost at the horseshoe pits. He was exceptional in all the leagues he joined including bowling, darts and pool. In winter, Jim loved spending time in Florida before a stroke sadly disabled him in 2006 and he was no longer able to travel. Jim had a heart of gold, was generous to a fault, and his smile would light up the room.
Jim was a loving father of his children Kevin (Karen) and Carla (Dale) who will miss their Dad more than he could ever know. He was a proud grandfather of Craig, Stacey, Kyle, Trevor and Thomas and great grandfather of William, Addison, Jaxson, Julia and Lyla. Jim is also survived by his brothers Gregory (Celine), Michael (Elaine), and his sisters Nancy (Hardy), Maxine (Joe), and Susan and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved first wife of 23 years Delores (Demont), his parents Frederick and Mary (Flynn), his brother Doug and his precious dog Dillon.
Jim will be forever loved and missed.
By Jim’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
We would like to thank the staff at West Bedford Transitional Care for providing such loving care for our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother in his final days.
