Herring Cove, NS
September 15, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Gerard “Max” Gallagher, age 92, of Herring Cove, Nova Scotia, who passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024.
He will be forever cherished by his children, Chris (Jeannette) and Catherine (Arnold), and deeply missed by his granddaughters, Amanda (Graeme) and Katelyn (Liam), as well as his step-granddaughters, Ashley and Aryn. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine; his parents, Edward and Catherine; and his brothers, Edward “Babs” and Donald.
A lover of the ocean, Max was raised amongst the cliffs of Duncan’s Cove, where his father was the keeper of the Chebucto Head lighthouse. A dedicated former employee of CBC Radio, he was also an avid sportsman and an active member of the Herring Cove community, where he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and friendship. Known for his quick wit and sense of humour, Max had the unique ability to brighten any day—never telling the same joke twice (HA!). He was also remarkably handy, capable of building or fixing anything with skill and ingenuity. Though he will be greatly missed, Max’s vibrant spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
The Gallagher family would like to extend a special thank you to Colleen and Cyril for their unwavering support.
A service to celebrate Max's life will be held on Thursday, September 26th at 10:00AM at Stella Maris Parish (formerly St. Michael's Catholic Church).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Max’s memory can be made to Diabetes Canada.
