Membertou First Nation, NS
April 26, 1939 - July 2, 2024
It is with sadness in our hearts that we the family announce the passing of our beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, and Godfather, Francis David Googoo on July 2, 2024 at the age of 85 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A devout daily bible reader, Francis was born on April 26, 1939 to the late Annie Googoo of Membertou.
Francis lived the simple humble life of a master carpenter and cabinet maker, yet everything else about him was anything but simple. A quick wit and unique sense of humour found its way into his daily interactions with his family and friends. In our family and community there are no dad jokes just “Francis Googoo” jokes, his love of life and making everyone around him smile and laugh are his most precious memories we have of him. A survivor of the residential school system, Francis taught his children to value education and to love music, especially Cape Breton Fiddle music. A life-long Bruins fan, Francis looked forward to the many wonderful hours of laughter and rivalry spent in front of the TV when his Bruins played against his son’s Habs.
Francis is survived and much beloved by his wife of almost 62 years, Mary Ellen, brother Alex “Beco” Poulette (Karen), London On., daughters Shannon Googoo, Millbrook, Kelly Gloade (Bob), Millbrook and Keah Gloade (Bradley), Millbrook; sons Robin Googoo (Noreen), Membertou, Darren Googoo, Membertou, Glenn Googoo, Membertou and Jason Googoo (Shawna) Upper Tantallon; grandchildren; Marcella Marshall, Miranda Marshall, Bryan Brooks, Noel Brooks, Kristen Googoo, Jared Googoo, Adrianna Bonnell, Janelle MacDonald, Robin Googoo Jr, Aaron Googoo, Raven Googoo, Andrew Googoo, Dante Googoo, Avery Doucette, Seth Doucette, Annie Doucette, Lily Doucette, Alexander Rudderham, Xavier Rudderham, Christian Gloade, Kadin Gloade, Kaitlin Googoo, Joshua Googoo, Dawson Googoo, Dominic Googoo and Kaiya Googoo along with 27 great grandchildren; and godchildren Emily Paul, Adrian Paul, Steven Doucette, Harold “Ricky” Doucette, Lorraine Marshall, Nakita Paul, Annette Cremo, Addy Poulette, and Jeff Herney.
