HAWKINS, Barry Raymond

Lawrencetown, NS

March 26, 1940 - June 16, 2024


HAWKINS, Barry Raymond – 84, of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024 in Annapolis Royal Nursing Home.


Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he was raised by his father Lewis and Jessie Hawkins. Barry was a successful producer in radio and television with Selkirk and CJCA Edmonton and was well known for “The 11-2 Show” or the Bill & Bill talk show as some called it.  Barry also produced and hosted his own show for CITV Edmonton (now Global). He was a councillor for Parkland County for three terms. Barry was a professional musician and played in a dance band called the “Cimmarons” with his friend Jim Yasey and Jim’s son, Bill. They played often at the Red Barn just outside of Edmonton where they would fill the hall. He also played in Jazz Combos at the MacDonald Hotel, Edmonton along with various clubs and show rooms.


Barry and Brigit had a large extended family by whom they were chosen – often filling the role as mom and dad or as a grandmother or grandfather figure.


Survived by his Brigit; sons Barry Munro, Alberta; Guy (Carmen) Monro, Edmonton; Michael (Yvonne) Hawkins, Cambridge, England; sister Diane (Dennis) Dreikluft, Winnipeg, Manitoba; brother Fred (Marlene) Hawkins, Whiterock, BC; and extended family members.


Barry was predeceased by his birth mother Marian. Cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service as per Barry’s wishes.


Donations may be made to support local music students in Barry’s memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home
