Dartmouth, NS March 26, 1931 - October 2, 2024
William "Bill" Hemeon passed away on October 2, 2024, at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories.
He was born to Gladys (Ramey) and Henry Hemeon in Louis Head, Shelburne County, NS.
Bill was known for his warm smile, gentle nature, and jokester spirit, which brightened the lives of everyone who knew him. He had a sharp sense of humour and loved a good laugh, often sharing jokes and light-hearted stories with family and friends. Bill's laughter was infectious, and he could always be counted on to lift the mood and bring smiles to those around him, especially when he was passing out his “signature” lifesavers candy.
He lived a full and vibrant life, filled with laughter and love, especially alongside his beloved late wife, Patricia Hemeon, with whom he shared over 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created countless memories that shaped the family they cherished.
Bill is survived by his devoted children, Kelly (Sandy) Martin, Tammy (Dan) King, and Gail (Darren) Kaye, who were the pride of his life. He found great joy and fulfillment in his role as a grandfather to Jillian Martin (Cody Morris), Jennifer (Jeff) Morris, Caitlin (Adam) Firlotte, Braden Kaye (Sara Roussel), and Andrew King. He found great pleasure in tormenting his only sister, Audrey Conrod, whom he had a very special bond with. Brothers, Ken (Dolly) Hemeon, Gene Hemeon and Fred (Zela) Hemeon.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Munro) Hemeon, Mother, Father and brother, Morris Hemeon. He was a constant source of support, love, and inspiration to his family, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Bill left home at the age of 17 to join the Armed Forces, where he spent time overseas. When he returned to Halifax, he worked in the food industry, including, Dominion Stores, Bolands (IGA) and Atlantic Wholesalers. During his time as Director with Atlantic Wholesalers, he helped create the “No Frills” program and assisted with the take-over of Capital Stores. His passion was as a buyer, and he loved the grocery business. Bill, along with his late wife, Pat, also enjoyed welcoming visitors to Halifax Stanfield International Airport as Volunteer Ambassadors (Tartan Team) for over 15 years.
In addition to being a devoted family man, Bill was an avid sports fan and loved to watch almost any game, whether it was baseball, hockey, football, or golf. His passion for sports reflected his love for competition and the simple joys in life. Watching a game with him meant enjoying his witty commentary, humorous insights, and, of course, sharing in his laughter.
A funeral service to honour and celebrate Bill's life will take place at Saint John XXIII, 35 Colby Dr, at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 11, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice in Bill's memory.
Bill’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will be treasured forever.
