Howie, Murray Lloyd

Halifax, NS

May 5 1952 – June 30, 2024

It is with sadness our family announces the passing of Murray Howie, age 72 on June 29, 2024.

Born in Glace Bay NS, he was the son of the late Aulay Howie (Hazel) and Winnifred Boutillier (Spencer).

Murray was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Debbie (nee Stewart) Howie.

He is survived by his sons, Michael (Margo) Howie; Jeffery (Kerry) Howie; grandchildren Sarah, Jack, Rachel and Ryan; sisters Judy (Carl) Orde, Audrey (Angus) Matheson; and many nieces and nephews.

After finishing high school, Murray and Debbie moved to Ontario where they were married and began their family but after seven years, they decided to move back to Halifax to be closer to their families. Murray was a Stationary Engineer at Ben’s Bakery where he worked until it’s closure in 2015. He loved what he did and always had stories to share about the people he worked with and the pranks they pulled. Murray could always be counted on for a tall tale, a good joke and a helping hand. He carried on his families tradition of making Christmas pudding and did so with pride all his life. Christmas was his favorite holiday and he loved nothing more than giving to others, especially his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Murray will be fondly remembered by those who knew him for his quick wit and helpful manner.

In accordance with Murray’s wishes there will be no visitation or public internment. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can me made in Murray’s memory to the Diabetes Association of Canada.
