LeBlanc (Nichols) - Anna Wilhelmina

Whitney Pier, NS

January 23, 1949 - July 20, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Wilhelmina “Sookie” LeBlanc at the Glace Bay Hospital July 20, 2024 following a courageous battle with a long illness.

Sookie grew up in Whitney Pier and took great pride in proclaiming herself as being "From the Pier, Dear," cherishing the lifelong friendships and family ties that came with it.

She was the eldest daughter of Walter George “Dick” and Anna Vera (Sinclair) Nichols.

Sookie is survived by her husband, Dave, as well as her children: Natasha (David), David (Nicole), Christopher, Adam, and Meghan (Dan). She is also survived by grandchildren: Abigail, Brady, and Sarah Hackett; Mya and Caleb LeBlanc; and Ava and Zoe LeBlanc. Sookie is also survived by sisters Priscella “Cella”, Margaret “Sister” (Paul), Barbara (Stewart), and Carmie (Duncan) and brother Nicky (Anna), as well as brothers-in-law Eugene and Dennis LeBlanc, and sisters-in-law Valerie and Donna LeBlanc. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Vera Nichols, as well as her brother, Walter Nichols, and brothers-in-law James and Russell LeBlanc, Jim Duffy, and Jack Smith.

In her younger years, Sookie forged many friendships while working at Cruickshank’s Drug Store, Woolco, Walmart, and the Cream Putt, before dedicating herself to Harbourstone Extended Care, where she found great fulfillment. Sookie had a passion for dart playing and excelled, proudly achieving the Gold Medal in her age group at the Canada 55+ Games. Sookie was the founding President of the Howie Center Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ auxiliary where she was responsible for starting their Tree of Life campaign. Sookie loved her family, darts, her games of Scrabble, crib, and bingo, Christmas, Hallmark movies, and a good rum and Coke on the back deck.

We give special thanks to her caregivers at Taigh Na Mara Care Home and the Glace Bay Hospital.

Sookie imparted this final piece of advice:

"My hope is that each of you enjoy your families and friends, stay close to one another, laugh often, and don’t take life too seriously. Until we all are together again, remember me and how much I loved you all.”

Interment in Alfred E. Smith Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
