Sydney, NS

June 10, 1959 - April 5, 2025

In a moment that changed the landscape of our family forever, with grace, faith,

and dignity, Shirley, took the last steps of her earthly journey into our Lord God’s

loving arms on April 5, 2025, where she was reunited with our Mom and Dad.

Shirley was born June 10, 1959, in Sydney Nova Scotia. Shirley was the daughter of the late Dougal and Ruby (Baggs) MacAulay.

Shirley grew up on Grand Lake Road and attended Lakevale Elementary School, and Riverview High School. Shirley graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers College (A. ED) in 1981 and St. Francis Xavier University (B. ED) in 1991.

Shirley loved to travel and taught in Northern Manitoba remote First Nations communities for more than 20 years before moving to Southern Manitoba.

Shirley enjoyed sunny holidays in Mexica, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. But the highlight of every year was her annual trip home to Cape Breton Island!

Shirley loved meeting new people and her friendly personality and willingness to try new things earned her friends wherever she went.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents Dougal and Ruby (Baggs) MacAulay.

Shirley is survived by her sisters, Jean (Dennis) MacIntyre, Sydney, and Eleanor (Gary) Nolan, Halifax, and her brother Dougal (Darlene) MacAulay Jr. of Sydney. She is also survived by nieces, Allison Colbourne, Kelly MacKinnon, Melanie, Brittany, and Jessica MacAulay, as well as nephews, Jason and Dougal Nolan.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and EHS for the care they gave Shirley.

A memorial service will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Coull officiating on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 5 pm with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Shirley loved dogs and so to honor her memory donations may be made to your local SPCA.

Shirley, you are forever in our hearts until we meet again....
