MacDonald, Dan Neil

Breton Cove, NS

June 22, 1941 — June 27, 2024


It is with much sadness that we the family announce the passing of Dan Neil MacDonald at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Baddeck on June 22,2024 at the age of 77, with his loving family by his side.


Dan was born on June 8,1947 in North River. He was the son of the late Dan and Margaret (MacDonald) MacDonald.


He was an active member of the St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church, where he could be found helping out with various church fundraisers and events.


 He held many jobs over the decades, but in later years he worked at the Chanterelle Inn, joking he was too young to retire and "it keeps me out of trouble".


 He leaves behind his two loving daughters. Dolena (Lester)MacAskill Englishtown and Denise(Patrick) MacInnis Breton Cove. His beloved grandchildren, Kyle (Holly St.George) Halifax, Keller MacInnis New Minas Skyler and Sawyer MacInnis Breton Cove Great grandson Cohen MacLellan Ontario Great granddaughter Skye Ibey Wolfville.


Dan is also survived by his loving sister Anna Mae Leadbetter, with whom he resided. They both enjoyed jumping in the car for a coffee run to Tim's or a favourite restaurant. Also survived by his niece Ann ( Mike) Pitts. Dan enjoyed hanging out with Mike and going for breakfast so Ann could sleep in! Also survived by brother-in-law Gussie MacAskill North River. Niece Barbra (Brad) MacRae, Shirley (Mike)Sawchuk, Mary (Angus) Christie, Gloria MacAskill, Beverly (Darren) MacAskill, Jennifer (Bruce) Preete and nephew Stewart MacAskill.


Dan was predeceased by his grandson Noah MacInnis ,a brother in infancy, Sister Shirley MacAskill North River, sister Ruth Matheson Breton Cove. Niece Peggy MacLeod ,brother-in-law Bobby Leadbetter and many aunts and uncles.


 The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr.Genge, Dr.Bonner and Dr.Clemente. The palliative care team, Dr.Ritter, Paulette and Kelli for their outstanding care and kindness. To the nurses at VCMH ,especially Sally MacDonald for the wonderful care that she gave are father. To the home care nurses that came to the house, Marie, Ken, Melissa, Blair. To Roz, Zelda, Lisa and Marilyn ,you guys are amazing! You always knew what my father and I needed.


We would also like to say a very special thank you are dad's close friends Barbra Jean MacRae for always being there.


Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in North River from 1pm to 2pm.


Funeral Mass to follow at 2pm with Rev. Connie Stewart officiating with lunch to be served following the service.
