Bridgewater ,NS
August 20, 1993 - May 16, 2024
Isabel Mary MacDonald passed away at age 30 on May 16, 2024, in Gatineau, Quebec, while living in Ottawa. Left broken-hearted are her mother, Mary MacKenzie, and her brother, Andrew MacDonald (Brooklynn Lane) of Bridgewater.
Isabel was born in Ottawa on August 20, 1993, into a military family and also lived in Winnipeg. As a little girl, she attended French Immersion in Russel, Ontario and enjoyed gymnastics. In Winnipeg, her passion was ringette, and she loved basketball and Cubs/Scouts. She had mad skills with a jump rope. Camping was her favorite family activity, where we explored Western Canada and made frequent trips to Nova Scotia to visit family. At age twelve, she came to live in Nova Scotia, where she and Andrew went to Bridgewater Jr/Sr High.
With her big personality, she made many friends. If you were her friend, you had someone who made you laugh, gave a listening ear and was fiercely loyal. She did not judge and forgave easily. With her huge heart, she loved her family, especially her precious nephew, Kyson. Her smile was huge, and she was proud when she talked about him. Forevermore, Kyson has a guardian angel.
Isabel’s Aunt Debbie (MacKenzie) Thibeau, Uncle Bob Thibeau, Aunt Sheila MacKenzie, and cousins Julie, John, Michelle, and Louis, all of Ontario, are also left to mourn.
Isabel struggled with the illness of addiction. It had a grip on her, yet she didn’t dwell on the negatives or give up even when, by any measure, her life was very hard. Isabel made a courageous, determined effort near the end of her life, which was a precious gift for her family. Many hours were spent on the phone between Ottawa and Bridgewater as she spoke of her dreams of a career, children, and the hope of remaining drug-free. She had emphysema and passed away from severe pneumonia.
We will lay her to rest on Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. in Brookside Cemetery in Bridgewater. Pastor Brooklynn Lane will officiate, and a reception will follow. Feel free to wear bright colours.
In her memory, please consider donating to Souls Harbour Mission or going to GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/celebrating-the-life-of-isabel-macdonald or just hugging someone you love.
