MACLAREN, Evelyn

Linacy, NS

March 14, 1941 - June 20, 2024


Myra Evelyn (MacDonald) MacLaren, 83, of Linacy, passed away peacefully June 20, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.


Born March 14, 1941 in New Glasgow, NS, she was a daughter of Ross and Elizabeth (Campbell) MacDonald. Evelyn lived in Pictou County all of her life. 


Over the years, she had many jobs including desk manager at the original YMCA, personnel manager at Kmart and the program director at Glen Haven. She owned her own restaurant and spent many years doing bookkeeping. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Linacy Fire Department.


She always enjoyed a good game of cards, TV bingo and the daily puzzles. She loved gardening and cooking for a large group, especially family, with her famous purple potato salad being her specialty.


Evelyn is survived by son, Edward (Kim) of New Glasgow; daughter, Debby (Greg) Grant of Newmarket, Ontario; daughter-in-law, Tammy MacLaren of New Glasgow; grandchildren: Amanda and Mitchell (Savannah) MacLaren; Andrew (Lindsay), Ryan, and Allie Grant; and Kilti and Courtney MacLaren. She is also survived by four sisters: Iris Guptill, Lydia MacCulloch, Bette Anne (Gordon) Langille, Leona Stewart, all of New Glasgow; and three brothers: Lionel (Marilyn), Greenhill; Ross (Gail), Mahone Bay; and Brian (Margie) MacDonald, Westville; step-sister, Marion Montgomery, New Glasgow; as well as many nieces and nephews.


She was predeceased by her husband, Neil MacLaren and later by her partner, Aris Hazeleger. She was also predeceased by her sister, Willena Darroch, brother, Irving MacDonald, and son, David MacLaren.


Cremation has taken place. Funeral service scheduled for 2 pm Monday, June 24, at Little Harbour Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Joon Ki Kim officiating. Burial of ashes in Church Brook Cemetery and reception to follow in Church Hall.
