The family of Kathryn Grace MacLeod "Grace" age 92, wish to announce her passing on Monday, February 10, at Victoria County Hospital.
Born on September 16, 1932, she was the daughter of Mabel (Carmichael) and Neil MacDonald of North River Bridge, Victoria County.
Grace attended Normal College in Truro, and began her teaching career in one-room schools in North River and later in French River. She served as teaching principal in North Shore Consolidated School until her retirement in 1990. She was an exceptional educator who is fondly remembered by former students, who mention the positive impact she had in their school experience.
While teaching in French River, she married Roderick MacLeod (in 1959) and together they raised a family in Breton Cove.
Grace was an active and faithful member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, North River, and in earlier years she served as an elder and organist at Calvin and William Reid Churches in North Shore. She was active in AMS, and in many church events.
Grace is survived by her daughters Marilyn MacLeod, Baddeck, and Emily MacLeod, and her husband Terry Look, of Colville, New Zealand (and their granddaughter, Willow).
Grace's most cherished role was that of Nannie, and recently Great Nannie to her grandchildren: Steven MacInnis, (Hammonds Plains), his wife Hailey, and their daughters Isla (5) and baby Ava Grace (5 months) and Kate MacInnis, Baddeck, and her son Rogan (4)
Also surviving are sisters: Marcella Parks (the late Courtney), Eleanor Logan (Keith) and brothers Raymond (Donna) and Jack (Marlene)
Sisters-in-law: Carl's wife, Shirley and Jess's wife, Ellie. Nieces: Tami, Sheri, Rachael, Lisa, and Nephews: Michael, Ian, Andrew, Jonathan and Timothy.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roderick in May 2000 and her son Robert (age 12) in May 1975.
Brothers: Carl MacDonald and Jess MacDonald, Sisters-in-law: (the MacLeod sisters - Sadie,Tain, Peggy, Katha, Mae, and Grace.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the healthcare workers at Victoria County Hospital for the exceptional care Grace received, both in the fall, and during the last week. Our gratitude is also extended to her Home Support Team. Your visits and excellent care enhanced her quality of life during her last few months.
To honour Grace's wishes a memorial service will be held in August when her New Zealand family can be with us.
Memorial donations in honour of Grace may be made to either Victoria County Home Support Services or St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, North River Bridge.
