February 5, 1935 - December 19, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Greta (LeBlanc) MacNeil, of Sydney, announce her passing on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, at the age of 89.
Born February 5, 1935, in Sydney, Greta was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Robiceau) LeBlanc.
In her younger years, Greta worked at David’s Grocery Store, where she formed lifelong friendships. Later, as a devoted stay-at-home mom, her home was always a warm haven filled with the smell of freshly baked cookies, a cup of tea ready to share, and her hearty, contagious laugh.
Greta found her true calling as a hospital sitter, where her compassion and kindness touched many lives. She also enjoyed her time on bus tours with family and friends, making wonderful memories along the way.
Greta was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend, whose kindness and warmth touched everyone who knew her.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Diane (Albert) Nordine, Robert, Alan (Penny), Danny (Karen), Joanne MacKinnon, and Lynn MacNeil; grandchildren, Aaron, Mark, Todd, Jonathan, Aimee, Adam, Jessica, Laura, Colin and Zoë; and her nine great-grandchildren.
Greta is reunited in peace with her husband, Henry; children, Wayne and Carole (who passed in infancy); grandson, Kyle; and siblings, Arthur, Alice, Georgina, and Doreen.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Cove Guest Home for the exceptional care and love shown to Greta during her six years there. Special thanks to Joan Martin, Linda MacLeod and Lori MacLellan for their kindness and dedication.
In keeping with Greta’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Cove Guest Home.
Greta’s favorite quote will forever remind us of her strength and acceptance:
"It is what it is."
