It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Teresa Carmel MacNeil, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the age of 97.

Born in New Waterford on June 8, 1927, Teresa lived a life full of love, laughter and generosity.

Teresa is survived by her children, Frank MacNeil and Cathy Greer (Brant); son-in-law, Mike McKeown; cherished grandchildren, Shannon (Russ) MacKinnon, Lisa (Matt) Jobb, Matt McKeown, and Mark McKeown; and her adored great-grandchildren, Rylee and Brennan MacKinnon, Tristan McKeown and Vivian Jobb. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Teresa was predeceased by her loving husband, Bob; daughter, Joann; daughter-in-law Debbie; parents, Catherine and William Jones; and all her brothers and sisters.

Throughout her life, Teresa found joy in golf, card games and, most notably, bridge, which she loved passionately as a member of the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League). A devout woman, she was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and dedicated herself to her faith and her community.

Teresa spent her later years surrounded by wonderful friends and the caring staff at Williston House, where she enjoyed a decade of companionship and kindness. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Teresa’s exceptional healthcare team—Wendy, Karla, Crystal, Rebecca, Carol and Joanie—for their compassion and dedication, as well to Darren and his team at the VON, Dr. Giorno, and Brett from Hospice and Palliative Care for their unwavering support.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Teresa’s life will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Feb 6th at 1 p.m. with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Teresa’s memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.

Mom’s love, humor, and warmth will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew her.
