Maddison, Marilyn M.

Springhill, NS

January 25, 1933 - November 3rd, 2024


Marilyn M. Maddison, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, at the age of 91.


Marilyn was born in Springhill on January 25, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Allan E. Fowler (Parrsboro, NS.) and Mary J. Thompson (South Brook, N.S.)


Marilyn attended school in Springhill N.S. She graduated high school in 1951. She continued her education by attending Nursing School, and soon realized it was not her cup of tea. She married the love of her life James (Jimmy) O. L. Fraser in 1954. They had 3 children Susan, Sharon, and Drew. They were stationed at numerous Air Force Bases including Germany. After they separated, Marilyn had a variety of jobs. At the age of 35, she attended Nova Scotia Teachers College , which led to her passion for teaching children. 


Marilyn loved skating, knitting, crosswords, cryptoquotes, Scrabble, crib, 45’s, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. If there was any type of game, she was willing to play. Marilyn was a volunteer for many organizations including the Citizens Advisory Committee (Springhill Institution), Springhill/Oxford Chapter of the Kidney Foundation; Springhill Seniors Centre; Springhill 2011 Lions Club, and Springhill Heritage Group. 


Her faith in God was very strong, as she attended St. David’s Presbyterian church, from childhood until its closing. Her many positions were organist, treasurer, as well, she became an Elder of the church.


Marilyn enjoyed many great years with her friend and companion Stan Pashkoski. Stan’s family became her extended family, who will all miss her dearly.


In 2004, Marilyn married Raymond Maddison. They were blessed to have a loving relationship until his passing in 2008.


Other than her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by her first husband Jimmy Fraser; her second husband Ray Maddison; her sister Dorothy (James) Trueman; her sister/cousin Shirley (Archie) McNeil, and Stan.


She will be dearly missed by her children, Susan, Sharon (Kent) Burden, Drew (Wendy) Fraser. As well as her grandchildren Stephen, Allison, Leslie, Brad, Jane, Jill, Brittany, Amanda, Cherylee, Jonathan, and Rebecca, her 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grand daughter.


Arrangements are under the care and direction of the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (902 597 2361). Visitation will take place Saturday, November 30th from 1 - 2 PM, Service 2 - 3 PM at the St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church in Springhill, followed immediately by a reception in the church.
