Martin, Danitta Anne

Sydney, NS October 23, 2024

Danitta Anne Martin, age 62, of Sydney, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23,2024, in the palliative care unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Danitta grew up in Bateston and raised her children there as well. She loved being surrounded by family and friends and being close to the ocean. When she moved back to Cape Breton from Alberta, one of the first things Danitta said when she smelled that salty air was “I’m Home!”.

Danitta loved music and singing. She was part of the M.A.D. Immaculate Conception Choir. She directed the choir for a time as well. She cherished those fond memories. She loved to throw a good ole house party too…or go to one. As long as there was music and laughter, she was in her happy place. Her daughters, Leah and Dawn, inherited her love of music and singing as well.

Danitta loved being outdoors, but the ballfield was probably her favorite place, especially when her son, PJ, was playing. She was very happy to have watched her family’s team, “Tommy Guns”, play this summer at the Bateston Ballfield.

Danitta is survived by her son, PJ Ward; daughters, Leah Horseman and Dawn Martin; grandchildren, Dawson, Lucy, Sydney, Jamie, Kennedy, and Dexter; siblings, Charlie (Elsie), John Joe (Eileen), Sue, (Joe), Sammy (Raylene), Stevie and Tammy (Yvon); nieces and nephews, Jasmin, Chris, Tyler, Ashley, Ron, Cindy, Genevieve, Cole, Riley and Justine, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Pierre and Lydia Muise, Sam and Mary Ward; parents, Ronald and Beatrice Ward; infant sister, Genevieve and brothers, Jimmy and Tommy.

As per Danitta’s wishes, there will be a celebration of life to take place at a later date. Announcement will be made in advance.

Her family wish to extend much gratitude to all who visited Danitta and who helped in any way to make her days easier and brighter.

The family would like to give special thanks to her friend, Tonia and cousin, Belinda, as well as her healthcare professionals.

Donations in memory of Danitta may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
