McDonald, Michael David “Mike”

Linacy, NS

November 7, 2024

Michael David “Mike” McDonald, 58, Linacy, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024, at home following a brief illness.

Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Duncan Grant and Barbara Ann (Jenkins) McDonald. Raised in Linacy, Mike was last employed by Wayne Robinson Construction, having previously been employed for many years as a long-haul trucker with G & B McDonald Trucking, Armour Transportation and DeMonts Transport. Mike thoroughly enjoyed his trucking career but was most happy when he was home with his family.

In earlier years Mike, his wife Audrey, who passed in 2005 and their boys, Michael and Brandon, built a motorcross track in Piedmont, where they spent many enjoyable years dirt biking. They traveled throughout the Maritimes racing and making memories to last a lifetime. Mike was very proud of his nephew, Cade Moser who plays hockey for the Halifax Mooseheads, never missing a game.

One of Mike’s biggest goals in life was “to be a grandfather”. He was blessed with a grandson, Barrett, who he called, “Big Bear”.  Mike never missed an opportunity to facetime with his grandson or be with him in person.  When ever Barrett visited grampie, they always went to the garden to pick veggies. Mike was a loving, kind and helpful, son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed by all those he loved.

Besides his parents, Grant and Barb, he is survived by his partner, Kimberley “Kimmie” Carrigan; sons, Michael, Linacy;  Brandon (Robyn),Hammond Plains; grandson, Barrett;    sisters, Debbie Zinck, Fredericton, N.B.; Donna Lamey, Linacy; Bridget Moser, Linacy; several nieces and nephews; maternal aunts, Peggy Young, Linacy; Janet King, New Glasgow;  paternal aunts, Joyce MacMaster, Port Hawkesbury; Sherry (Phillip) Landry, Linacy; Sandra (Alex) Fraser, Hammonds Plains; many cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey (O’Connor) McDonald; maternal grandparents, Alton Alexander and Marjorie Anne (Hiltz) Jenkins; paternal grandparents, David Joseph McDonald and Doris Catherine (Fraser) (McDonald) Lewis; brothers-in-law, Robert Zinck; Jay Moser; paternal uncle, John MacMaster.

The family will receive visitors 12 – 1:50 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.  Interment will be in Piedmont Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Pictou County SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society.
