McEachern, Wilfred Duncan

Halifax, NS

August 29, 1942 - September 12, 2024

Wilf McEachern, age 82, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away at Melville Lodge on September 12th, 2024.

Born on August 29, 1942, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Effie MacEachern and John MacEachern.

Wilf set off early from home to earn his bachelor degree at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He spent summers working and traveling Europe with the Royal Canadian Air Force before beginning his teaching career at the age of 24, at St. Patrick’s High School in Halifax. There he taught Physics for almost 30 years, followed by a role with the Halifax Department of Education, lending his expertise on Science Education. A much loved teacher, he was always looking for new and creative ways to pass on his love of learning to his students and his children. Wilf was a dedicated husband to his wife of 35 years, father to his 3 children, and grandfather to his 3 grandsons. He was an avid golfer and a lifelong learner, eventually earning his Masters of Education at St Mary’s University, and working towards, but left undefended, his Doctorate of Science Education at Florida State University. Upon retirement he spent much of his time on his three favourite hobbies: fitness, reading and classical music.

Survived by his son Grant MacEachern (wife Karen), and grandson Kenzie, Toronto; daughter Lynne McEachern (husband Hamid), and grandsons Aidan and Camden, Toronto; former wife, Jane McEachern, Halifax; brothers Jack MacEachern, Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Donn MacEachern, Margaree, NS.

Wilf was predeceased by his son Graeme McEachern, Toronto, and brother Andy MacEachern, Bridgewater, NS.

His memorial will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Saturday, October 26th, 2-4pm, remarks at 3pm. The family would like to thank the staff and healthcare workers for the care and compassion provided to Wilfred for the three years he lived at Melville Lodge.
