Morash, Norma Jean

New Glasgow, NS

February 28, 1934 - January 15, 2024


Norma Jean Morash, age 89, passed away on January 15, 2024 at the Valley View Villa, with her siblings by her side. Norma was born on February 28, 1934, to Lionel and Lucy (Spears) Morash.


She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Garfield, sister-in-law, Charlotte Morash, and niece, Joanne (MacKay) McIntyre. She is survived by her sister, Miriam (Fergie) MacKay, brothers, Kenneth Morash, Robin (Bea) Morash, nephews, Ian MacKay, Stephen Morash, Andrew Morash, Rodger (Lisa) Morash, and niece, Nancy Lemaire. She also leaves behind several grandnephews and grandnieces.


Norma grew up in Trenton, where she developed her life-long appreciation of nature and learning. She was a faithful member of the United Church both in Trenton and Halifax. Norma was a member of the first Grade 12 graduating class in Trenton. From there, she went on to Teachers College in Truro, and later, Acadia University. Her love of learning continued her whole life as she constantly pursued learning and cultural activities. She began her 37-year teaching career in Trenton where she taught for 7 years. She then moved to Halifax and spent the rest of her career at Joseph Howe School, enjoying every moment.


Norma loved living in Halifax where she enjoyed walking in The Public Gardens and attending the many cultural activities the city had to offer. As well, she was an excellent artist, knitter and seamstress. She also loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips.


The family would like to thank the staffs of The Berkeley in Halifax, hospitals in both Halifax and New Glasgow, and especially the loving staff of the Valley View Villa who gave Norma such wonderful care in the last few years. A special thanks to Gaile MacDougall who also watched over Norma.


Arrangements are under the care of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, with visitation 11am-11:45am Friday, January 19, followed by service at 12pm, with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to First United Church, Trenton or The Public Gardens, Halifax  (The Friends of the Public Gardens, PO Box 36013, 5665 Spring Garden Road, Halifax, NS, B3J 3S9).
