Sydney, NS
July 15, 1952 — October 6, 2024
With broken hearts, we regret to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. Muzzy passed away peacefully after a brief illness in the An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Muzzy is survived by his devoted wife and soulmate Sherry, daughter Cara Ward (Jason), granddaughter Jamie Lee, sister Lisa (Darrel) Mollon, brothers Kenny, Terrance (Nia), Harry, David (Ann), cousins, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Leonard, and his mother, Annie (Legge).
Muzzy had a big personality and a unique character that made people gravitate toward him. He was full of interesting stories and so loved telling them to anyone who would listen. He started working at Sydney Steel at 17 and spent several years with Stelco Steel in Ontario. After relocating back to Sydney, he and Sherry opened Muzzy’s Restaurant and Bar while working at Sydney Steel. After the closure of Muzzy’s, he continued at Sydney Steel. He then spent 25 years working in the steel industry in various countries including the US, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam. Throughout these years, he formed many special and lasting friendships. After retirement in 2019, he was not able to sit still so he worked some hours making deliveries for First Class Delivery.
He was hard working and had a generous heart. He would help anyone in need. Family was important to him and always enjoyed a good family gathering with his nearest and dearest. He was a dedicated and loyal husband, father, and grandfather. His only granddaughter, Jamie, was his pride and joy. They shared a very special bond. He was her person who she looked up to and he enjoyed every second of doing anything for her or just spending time together.
We would like to thank all medical staff who assisted with his care in the ER, 4B, and An Cala Palliative Care, as well as EHS.
A celebration of life in honor of Muzzy will be held on Sunday, October 20th at the Cedars Club in Sydney 2–4 pm. Drop in to share a story.
Donations in his memory can be made to Hospice Cape Breton, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, or SPCA.
"You gave us everything, and now we carry your wisdom and love in our hearts. We are forever grateful for the life you shared with us."
