Pezzareallo, Michael Todd

Sydney, NS

July 16, 1974 – October 15, 2024

It is with our most deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Todd Pezzareallo (dad, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend) on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Born on July 16, 1974, in Sydney to Louis Pezzareallo (late) and Catherine (Fixott). Michael—affectionately known as “Pezz” or “the Candy Man” was a beacon of joy, always sporting a warm smile that radiated his genuine love for life and the people around him. His heart was too big, and he poured it into every relationship, finding happiness in the simple act of giving.

An avid lover of the outdoors, he embraced every season with enthusiasm, whether he was camping under the stars, snowboarding down a slope, or kayaking on serene waters or swimming. In his youth, he loved playing on the flat part with his friends, daredevil skateboarding, sledding down the hill behind Kennedy Avenue, and catching air. With an infectious passion for life, Mike illuminated the forest around him on purpose as brightly as he did the hearts of those he loved. As a teenager, he was the epitome of charm, meticulously applying his favorite cologne and dressing to impress. Music was his solace, such as his passion for Pearl Jam was so profound that he wore out the very CD. As an adult, Mike’s pursuits in forestry, welding, and carpentry reflected his hands-on nature, while his love for travel expanded his horizons.

A neat freak at heart, he took pride in his collection of sunglasses and adventures with Tracy on the Mira as well as his many expeditions with his son Luka, sleuthing and combing for sea glass.

His humility belied the profound impact he had on others, as he generously shared his kindness and joy with everyone around him. Michael's legacy will forever shine through his son, Luka, and the countless memories we all hold so dear. He was a legend and we are profoundly grateful for him. In his memory let us carry forward Mike’s light igniting happiness in others and let these actions spread like wildfire, just as his love and laughter did with all of us.

Michael leaves behind his beloved beloved son Luka May-Pezzareallo and his mom Danielle May, Michael’s mother Cathy, two brothers, Rob (Vicki) and Chris (Sherry), along with numerous nieces, nephews, his many many friends and his beloved, Tracy Fraser.

As we mourn this incredible loss, we take comfort in knowing that Michael is at peace, embraced by the loving arms of Jesus and reunited with his best friend, his father Lou.

Donations may be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 40 Cabot St in Sydney Monday, October 21 at 11am inurnment to follow at Forest Haven Cemetery and then a gathering of family and friends at 4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 101 Dorchester St., Sydney.
