Antigonish, NS
September 28, 1944 - June 19, 2024
On Wednesday afternoon, June 19th, 2024, with her two children by her side, Eileen Michelle Power passed away at St. Matha’s Hospital in Antigonish.
Born on September 28th, 1944, the youngest of nine children, to Hattie (LeBlanc) and James Purcell. Eileen is predeceased by sisters, Jean Morrow, Genevieve O’Connoll, Helen DeCoste; brothers, Collin Purcell, Mel Purcell, Jimmy Purcell, Gerald Purcell (in infancy).
Eileen finished her high school education in Mabou and also completed secretarial training which she applied in Sydney prior to her marriage. Eileen married Fabian Michael Power [pre-deceased, April 2013] in 1966, when she returned to Mulgrave.
A source of enjoyment for Eileen included reminiscing at family get togethers, the "spirited" Saturday night card games with the usual suspects at the house, the weekend dances, and of course the after "dance" party that lasted until the sun came up.
Eileen loved making people smile and having a good laugh, preferably over a good meal and a cup of tea.
An active community member in Mulgrave where she grew up and resided until the mid 1990’s, Eileen’s love of involvement saw her as an active participant in Theatre Antigonish and many volunteer organizations. Always making time for everyone, her sense of fun and ability to tell a great story and relive the best of times made her beloved by family and friends alike. How she loved to talk and get to know everyone she met. She was an artist and musician. Close your eyes and you can picture her at the piano pounding out the latest rock and roll. And if you are lucky, you may have one of her paintings or ceramic art pieces.
Eileen is survived by her daughter Faye Power, her son Todd Power [spouse, Lori] and two grandson’s Garrett and Mackenzie [spouse Unity], as well as surviving elder brother, Leo Purcell and special friend Elwin MacPherson. Celebrating a life well lived will be the many nieces and nephews for which Eileen was a significant part of their lives. You are many and if she were here, she’d recount each one of you in detail—the day you were born, all the good times and laughter shared with you and perhaps a few stories you wished she’d forgotten but she remembered because you were so very dear and important to her.
Eileen’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jeannine Munro for her continued care, support, and kindness. A special thank you for all of her caregivers over the years.
Visitation will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street Antigonish on Tuesday, June 25th from 7-9pm and in the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place Wednesday, June 26th from 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Lawrence Church in Mulgrave at 11am on Thursday, June 27th with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Eileen will be remembered by all fortunate enough to know her and mostly by those who loved her best.
