September 04, 1945 - January 4th 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sheila Laura Rafuse, 76 of Chester Basin NS on January 4th 2025.

Sheila is survived by her husband of 54 years Shan Haley, her son Jimmie Haley and his wife Jenn, her beloved granddaughter Rebecca Haley and her partner Tyler Dawson, her great grandson Cayde Dawson, her sister Judy Rafuse and her partner Bryan Mackinnon.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lillian and Frances Rafuse , her twin sister Shirley Baylis, and her nephew James Lees.

Sheila worked for the Department of Natural Resources for 28 years, she had a very fulfilling career and made lifelong friendships along the way. She shared her love for numbers by doing Income Tax returns for several friends and family members for many years. She loved going to Bingo, camping, spending time with friends and family, travelling(especially to Cuba and Florida), having her nails painted for every occasion, but nothing was better than a feed of lobster. Not even a Chinese buffet.

She made so many new, amazing friends at the cottage on Wallaback Lake after she retired. We all cherish the time we spent there, but Rebecca especially loved being there with her Nanny and Poppy. So many wonderful memories She said to me a few days before she passed that she was well blessed, and I would agree.

Special thanks to Dr Robertson for her honesty and wonderful care throughout this whole process. Sheila thought a lot of you and so do we.

To the staff at SSRH we cannot thank you enough for the wonderful care you provided. Special thanks to the 3rd floor surgical wing nurses who were with us at the end. You were lovely.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service at Western Shore Cemetery followed by a reception (location TBD) will be held sometime when the weather is nice because as Sheila says "who wants to stand outside in January?"

Donations to the SSRH in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated https://www.healthservicesfoundation.ca/
