Randell, Freeman John

Randell, Freeman John, age 70, of Halifax, passed away on September 11, 2024 in the QEII, VG Site.


Born in Englee, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Samuel and Emily Randell.


Freeman started his career with National Sea Products working his way up from Deckhand to Mate and Relieving Captain. Following that, he served a 20-year career with the Canadian Coast Guard, retiring as Quartermaster. He never refused work and served on many ships throughout his career. At home, he took great pride in his vegetable garden. He was also an avid Blue Jays fan.


He loved to help his neighbours, clearing their driveways during a snowstorm. He was always there for family and friends.


Freeman is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Dale (Crowell); loving daughter Amanda (Robert Aucoin); brothers, Norman (Mae), George (Joan), Charles (Sharon), Maxwell, Joseph, Peter (Wendy), Kenneth (Karen), Brian (Christine); sisters, Rita Onstead, Shirley (Andrew) Lewis, Mary Wicks, Stella (Francis) Compton; many nieces and nephews.


Predeceased by brother Pleman, and Thomas; sister in law Margaret; brother-in-law John Onstead.


Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm on Saturday, September 14th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road. The funeral service will take place at 11 am on Monday, September 16th in the funeral home chapel with a reception to follow. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brunswick Street Mission.


We wish to extend thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of 6B at the VG Hospital and especially to his family doctor, Dr Colin Hebb.
