Riddle, Gail M. "Gay" Riddle

Kentville, NS

March 29, 1941 - January 16, 2024

Following a rich, full life of service and love, Gay, age 82, passed away gently and peacefully at Valley Hospice, Kentville, on January 16, 2024 with Peter, her husband of sixty-one years, holding her hand.

She did it all: career woman, devoted mother and grandmother, dedicated foster parent in both Nova Scotia and the State of Illinois, talented editor of and contributor to her husband’s writings, staunch supporter of animal welfare, and faithful volunteer at Valley Regional Hospital. Gay also served on the Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital Foundation Board and did volunteer work with Kosovo refugees at Aldershot.

Born in western New York State on March 29, 1941, she was the instigating force behind her family’s move to Nova Scotia during Canada’s Centennial Year of 1967, and treasured her citizenship in her adopted country and province. She served the Bank of Montreal as Senior Teller and Acadia University in the Housing Department and as Director of Conference Services. She loved and was loved by son Kendrick (Betty); daughter Anne (Kevin Moggy, deceased, and Bill Molnar); grandsons Alexander and Steven Moggy, and granddaughter Sidney Riddle.

The family is indebted to friends and medical professionals whose outstanding care and attention eased Gay’s final years, especially family physician Dr. Hazen Burton, VG Hospital oncologist Dr. Katherina Kieser, the compassionate nurses and caregivers of Valley Hospice and the Victorian Order of Nurses, tireless 911 Emergency Medical Services workers, dedicated staff members at Valley Regional Hospital and Eastern Kings Memorial Health Center, Cochrane’s Pharmacy in Wolfville, and the Canadian Red Cross.

Cremation was entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home. At Gay’s request, there will be neither funeral nor visitation.

Donations in her memory will be welcomed by the Valley Hospice Foundation and other medical care providers, animal welfare organizations, or a charity of one’s choice.
