Sequeria, Celine Edna

New Minas, NS

January 19, 1948 - September 14, 2024

We are deeply saddened to share that Celine Edna Sequeira, age 76, of New Minas, NS, passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2024.

Born on January 19, 1948, in Nakuru, Kenya, and later a resident of Kampala, Uganda, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary (Pinto) Mascarenhas.

Celine pursued her passion for nursing by graduating from nursing college in Manchester, England. She dedicated over 40 years to her career as an obstetric nurse, first at the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital in Kentville, NS, and later at Valley Regional Hospital also in Kentville. In 1972, Celine immigrated to St. John’s, Newfoundland, where she met the love of her life, Leslie. They married on September 15, 1973, in Kentville, and soon settled in New Minas.

Known for her tireless generosity, kindness, and devotion, Celine built countless lasting relationships within her community and beyond. She touched the lives of family, friends, and strangers alike with her quiet compassion and unwavering support, always extending a hand in times of need. Her impact on the lives she encountered was profound and lasting, even though she never sought the spotlight and never looked for anything in return.

Faith and family were Celine’s greatest joy, and she was fulfilled by the growth of her family in recent years. Celine was a devout member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wolfville.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Leslie, of New Minas; her three sons, Darren (Shawnna) of Kentville, Derek (Elizabeth) of Halifax, and Daniel (Bevan) of Halifax; and her five cherished grandchildren, Isaiah of Kentville, Madelyn, Jonah, Dominic, and Isabel, all of Halifax. Celine is also survived by her brother, Greg Mascarenhas of Goa, India; her sisters-in-law, Judy D’Sa (Vince) of London, England, and Lydia Nazareth (David) of Simcoe, Ontario; brother-in-law, Savio Sequeira, Toronto; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Celine was predeceased by her sister, Stella and brother-in-law, Francis, of Owen Sound, Ontario.

Cremation will take place, and visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Corpus Christi Parish, Kentville, with Father John MacPherson officiating.

For those unable to attend, a livestream of the service will be available online. A reception will follow in the church hall, with interment afterward in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Ridge Road, Wolfville.

In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Celine’s lifelong commitment to charity, donations in her memory are appreciated to Chalice, Covenant House or a charity of your choice.
