Shaheen, Louis "Lou" Allan

Donkin, NS

Friday, Aug 16, 2024

Louis “Lou” Shaheen, age 74 of Donkin passed away peacefully at Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay on Friday, Aug 16, 2024.

Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Lou and Sara (MacKinnon) Shaheen.

Besides his parents, Lou was predeceased by his beautiful wife Joy (Palmer), and we rest knowing they are reunited at last.

Lou is survived by his children, Sarah (Justin), Chelsea and Kaitlyn, and will be especially missed by his best friend and #1 fan, grandson, Brody Cole.

Lou was always ready to brag about Brody and loved going to the rinks to watch him play hockey. They have an unbreakable bond and mutual love for each other like nothing else. Lou is also survived by his siblings, Brian (Diane) and Linda (Rick) and many nieces and nephews.

Lou worked as a lab technician at St. Rita’s Hospital and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for most of his life, a job he took immense pride in and still holds dear friendships with his co-workers.

He was a proud member of the Donkin Legion and Donkin Fire Department. Lou played hockey with the Donkin Vultures for over 20 years before he got sick, and these friendships he made will always be remembered and cherished.

Lou was a true gentleman, always ready to help anyone who may need it. His smile lit up any room he was in, and his boisterous laugh (and sneezes) will be truly missed.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 23 at 11 am in St. Gregory’s Church, Donkin, with Father Norman MacPhee officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery followed by a celebration of life at Donkin Legion.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Centre.
