It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Gretol-Ann Margaret Stevens, age 83, of River Hebert. Gretol passed away peacefully at the White Birches Retirement Residence, Amherst, on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Myrtle (Nelson) Grant.
Gretol was a member of the Mayflower Rebekah Lodge, Joggins, the River Hebert Legion Auxiliary and the Friday Night Dart Club. In earlier years, Gretol loved traveling on the train with her grandchildren to Ontario. She was adored by her grandchildren who called her "Candy Nanny". She enjoyed driving, and would taxi anyone around that needed a lift.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Jamie (Twila), Fenwick, Laurie (Tammy), Fort Lawrence; daughters Bonnie (David) Rector, Amherst, Sheila Proctor, Oxford, Susan Amell, Oshawa, ON; 9 grandchildren, Jamie, Lynn, Kendra, Rodney, Blair, Kelsey, Dakota, Cole and Brayden; great grandchildren, Trinity, Masen, Hanna, Jaxon, Alaia, and Juliette; sisters Glenda Peverill, Amherst, Elizabeth Budden, Amherst, Shirley (Bob) Mack, Lr. Sackville; sister in law Elsie Grant, Calgary, AB; as well as her new family from White Birches.
She was predeceased by a daughter Darlene Dawn; life partner George Van Snick; brothers Eric, and Fred.
Arrangements are in care of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 2 pm, Life Celebrant Scott Balser officiating. Burial will be held beside her daughter in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert in the spring.
