It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Winnie, who passed away at the QE2 on November 1, 2024.
She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to her parents Ernest R and Miriam L (Scallion) Blakeney. She grew up and lived her life in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Winnie worked as a sales lady at a retail store on Barrington Street in Halifax during the 2nd World War. She met and married James L Stevens in 1943. From there, she dedicated her time to bringing up her children. She loved gardening. She enjoyed planting all kinds of shrubs and flowers and also had a good size vegetable garden for many years. She also enjoyed painting with water colors, knitting, sewing, doing puzzles amongst other things that kept her mind busy and constantly learning. She also enjoyed the visits from family especially her Grandsons when they came to visit from Ontario.
She is survived by her daughters Linda Stevens, Joanne Mannette, Beverley Fraser; her grandsons James and Robert Fraser in Ontario; her sister Hazel Hennel in Virginia USA and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband James L Stevens; son Donald J; daughter Carole D Morton; mother and father Ernest and Miriam Blakeney; sisters Olive Bellefontaine, Jean Boudreau, Dorothy Blakeney; brothers Kenneth, Gerald and Reginald (in infancy).
There will be no visitation, however, the family is having a celebration of life and a reception following at the Dartmouth Funeral Home on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 1:00pm.
