Larry Thomas of Truro, formerly of Dartmouth and Newfoundland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Deer Lake, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Clayton and Olive (Gilley) Thomas.


Larry worked all of his life in the automotive industry as a mechanic, teacher of mechanics at trade school, Service Manager and Fixed Operations Manager. He left a positive impression on everyone that he met. He liked to travel and saw a lot of the world. He was a staunch Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan and enjoyed NASCAR. He loved to hear about Hannah’s experiences with horses, along with her riding lessons, and Zachary’s basketball excursions, along with his shoe collection. He enjoyed taking Lucy, our grand dog, for walks in the park.


Larry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Alva (Halfyard); daughters, Lori Denman (Chris), Borden, Ontario; Kim Thomas (Malcolm), Truro; grandchildren, Hannah and Zachary Denman, Borden, Ontario; brothers, Wayne Thomas (Val), Deer Lake, Newfoundland; Rod Thomas, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Pauline Thomas, Deer Lake, Newfoundland; Jean Pope (Harold), Pasadena, Newfoundland; nieces and nephews, Karen Earle, Red Deer, Alberta; Michael Thomas, Cormack, Newfoundland; Michael Thomas, Fort McMurray, Alberta; Samantha Roberts, Deer Lake, Newfoundland; Trevor Pope, Baie Verte, Newfoundland. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Melvin Thomas.


Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Larry’s family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024.


Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, January 14, 2024, at The Salvation Army, Truro Corps, 14 Outram Street, Truro, Pastor Carman Crockett officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Bible Hill Cemetery, 41 Warren Drive, Bible Hill.
