Halifax, NS
October 13, 1982 - July 17, 2024
Kimberly Anne Thompson, age 41.
In the late evening of July 17, 2024, surrounded by those whom she loved, Kim passed away peacefully after a multi-year battle with cancer. Never giving up the fight and the hope of recovery, Kim bravely faced her illness with courage, resolve and grace.
Kim had an incredible zest for life which was evident every day through her positive and fun filled personality. Always willing to help others in need, Kim was the first to offer a hand, sympathetic shoulder to cry on, or a kind ear to a friend, colleague or even a stranger. Forever smiling and with an open heart, Kim was one of those people who had a genuine desire to make other's lives better. Her compassion was legendary, and her loyalty was unparalleled.
Kim's love for her family and friends was only matched by her love of her dogs and helping out Ottawa Dog Rescue services. She was an avid foster mom, and ended up being a proud "foster fail" when she couldn't bear someone else housing her little shadow, Dottie. Jax, her senior Schnauzer is who really kicked off the desire to help as many dogs as she could.
Kim is survived by her husband Chris MacDonald; her mother Kathleen and step-father Eric Slinn; father James Thompson and partner Barb Jones; brother Jeff Slinn and wife Megan; sister Amanda Thompson and husband Chris; In-laws Steve & Denise MacDonald and Beth & Eric Courchaine; and will be deeply missed by nieces Maeve and Rose, and nephew Rory, as well as by her Aunt Wendy Wagner, cousin Michelle Kavanaugh with her husband Jamie and sons Callen and Finn, and cousin Jeff Wagner with his wife Katherine and daughter Madison.
Kim had a penchant for connecting with people of all ages and walks of life and was always very close to her grandparents, Constance and Wally Greasley (Deceased), Irene and James Thompson (Deceased) and Lotte and Ted Slinn.
A celebration of life will take place in Ottawa at the Stonebridge Golf Course (68 Hawktree Ridge, Nepean) on Oct 17, 2024 from 4-7pm.
Kim was always one to prefer a party over a funeral, so we will honour and celebrate her life in the way she always wanted. Stories and anecdotes about her life, and the impact she had on family and friends will be shared through drinks, music, photos, laughter and tears! A second celebration of life will follow in Halifax in the spring/summer 2025.
In lieu of flowers, Kim would be touched, knowing that people donated to local dog rescues, Breast Cancer Research or a charity of their choice.
