Wadden, Gervaise Aloysius

July 9, 1938 - September 19, 2024


We, the family of Gervaise Aloysius Wadden, regret to announce his passing on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.


Born July 9, 1938, in Main-a-dieu, he was a son of the late Robert and Blanche (Lahey) Wadden. In his early years Gervaise was a lobster fisherman, land surveyor, and a cook on the draggers where he talked about his many adventures. He was an avid fisherman in his spare time and enjoyed a good game of cards where he loved to win our money.


Gervaise is survived by his wife, Roberta (Penny) and mother of his children Claire Wadden. Daughters, Geraldine (Bernie) Bresson, Bernadette (Doug) Burke and Rita (Mark) Ongo, step-daughter Susan (Tom) Colborne; sons, Bobby (Carol), Donnie (Donna), Aubrey (Charlotte) and George (Trish), and special grandson Rene Lewis. Also survived by his 22 grand children, 2 step-grandchildren, 32 great grand children, 4 great great grand children, and sister, Lillian Murray; half-sister, Ruth and brothers, John and Terry Wadden.


In addition to his parents, Gervaise was predeceased by his grandchildren Jason MacInnis, Ryan Ongo and Christina Marie in infancy, step-son Carl Lewis, sister Florence Lahey and brother, Jim Wadden, sisters in law Mary MacIsaac, Sandra Penny and brothers in law Wayne and David Penny. Also left to mourn are special friends Maxine, Delores, Kenny and Kevin.


Cremation has taken place under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 25th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 26th 11 am at Sydney Memorial Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. There will be a light luncheon to follow.


The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care that Gervaise received at New Waterford 2nd Medical Floor and especially nurse Joey for your kindness and support.


Memorials may be made to any children’s charity.
