  • Rhyno, Violet Marie

Charleston, NS June 9, 1950 - January 21, 2024 We are very sad to say our earthly goodbyes to our Mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and most recently great grandmother. Violet passed away peacefully Sunday, January 21st at Queens General Hospital with most of her family by her side. Born June 9, 1950, Violet was the daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Whynot) Lohnes. She enjoyed her family and adored her grandchildren and we all feel so lucky that she was able to meet her great grandson, Jack. She also truly enjoyed her fur babies. She loved to bake and cook and contribute to any local community events and her baked goods and recipes were enjoyed by all. Her earliest employment was being a nanny and housekeeper for her great friends Shirley and Royce “Hap” Melanson. After having her three daughters come to school age she chose to go back to work at Medway Mud Puddle with her longtime best friend Helen Whynacht and Joan Trimm. She also somehow in between, with her friend Heather Anthony knit for Jagman to help with the cost of raising a family. The next step was the one that impacted our lives the most. She became caregiver to Faye and Kyle McLellan. This whole family, Chuck, Linda, Faye and Kyle became our family. In her spare time, which wasn’t plentiful, she would always have a pot of tea on the stove and many friends sitting at our kitchen table. She was truly loved and she loved back. She will always be loved and never forgotten and we know she, as the angel that she was to us, will be welcomed into heaven by her Mom and Dad, our Dad (Ernie), Kyle, Lalia, Freeman, Lambert, Joan, Tim and so many others. She is survived by her daughters Dawn Croft (Jamie), Angela Rhyno (Kyle Oickle), Kim Saulnier (Scott), her companion Gary Downton, grandchildren Adam Levy, Ryan Croft (Angelic Whynot), Zackery Saulnier, Logan Croft (Morgan Hebb and Violet), Hailey Saulnier and her first great grandson Jack Croft, her brother Bob Lohnes, her brother Ray Lohnes, and all of her many loved nieces and nephews. She loved them all including the special bond she had with her niece Judy Conrad and her lifelong best friend Helen Whynacht. Special mention of Tyler Dagley (Cassie, Luke and Maddox) and of course Ryker. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Besides spending time with her family and loved ones. Hazel enjoyed baking sweets, playing cards, and chatting up a storm. Boy, did she love to talk to people. • BOWLBY, Darren Allen

Middleton, NS October 21, 1966 - January 13, 2024 On the 13 of January 2024, Darren, known to all as Boston, retired from the game. Darren’s life was marked by a long battle with addiction that brought him tremendous highs and the darkest of lows. He tried to leave this lifestyle many times, but his success was short lived. Like many living with addiction, an accidental overdose took his life. We choose to remember the person he was, even through the darkest of times; funny, caring and a friend to many. We grieve the young man he was before addiction stole him from us. An avid sports fan since a young age he played a variety of sports and could provide you all the stats and odds of every roster. He was always optimistic and cheering for his teams, the Bruins and Red Sox, no matter their current standing in the league. Go Boston! Above all, Darren was a beloved son, brother, and uncle. He will be sadly missed by his parents Wayne and Donna, sisters Tabatha and Jennifer, along with his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his fur baby Jack who he missed dearly. May they meet again.

  • MURRAAY, Richard Douglas (Dougie)

Lower South River, NS September 21, 1963 - January 15, 2024 Richard Douglas “Dougie” Murray, 60, of Lower South River and formerly of Mulgrave passed away on Monday January 15, 2024 at the Burnside Correctional Facility. Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late James Douglas and Edna Jeanette (Marshall) Murray. Dougie was a simple man, who liked the simple things in life. He loved his 3 children very much and adored his wife, Mary. He loved the woods – it was his passion; hunting in his younger years and working more as he got older. As much as he loved hunting, we think he enjoyed telling the stories about it more. You did not want to get him started on a hunting story. Dougie was a “Jack of all Trades”. There was not a lot that he couldn’t do, from mechanics to carpentry, electrical and plumbing. He was a perfectionist at everything he did, and it showed in his work. Dougie also loved watching a Toronto Maple Leafs came on Saturday nights (or any night they played); sometimes with a lot of screaming at the T.V. Dougie is survived by his partner of 35 years, Mary Hendsbee; children, Jamie Murray, Dylan (Kelly Layes) Murray and Dalton Murray; sisters, Amy Murray, Veronica Murray and Rosie Meagher. He was predeceased by his father, James Douglas Murray and mother, Edna (Marshall) Murray; brothers, Jamie and Donnie. Memorial Donations may be made to Nova Scotia Mental Health, or Charity of one’s choice.
